Training of Specialised Educational Support Teachers for the inclusion of students with disability and/or special educational needs – MIS 5000939

The subject of the Operation was the training of multiplier-trainers and substitute teachers of the general Primary and Secondary Education who work for the individualized in-classroom support of students. Training content included the basic principles of inclusion, applied programmes for raising awareness and reforming attitudes towards diversity and disability, forms of cooperative teaching, design of individualized educational programmes, and differentiation of the curriculum for educational and social integration.
The training is directly connected to the implementation of the international UNO convention (2006) for the rights of disabled persons, which was ratified by Greece with law 4074/2012.
Aims:
- effective integration of the students with special educational needs or disabilities in general schools
- upgrading and modernization of teachers’ knowledge and skills
- reducing /preventing early school leaving, promoting equality of access, improving the quality of education
Implementation Process: The training was implemented in two (2) phases: 1st phase training for Special Education Consultants and teachers working at the Centres for Differential Diagnosis, Assessment and Support of students with Special Educational Needs (KEDDY) and 2nd phase training for all the individualized in-classroom support teachers. More than 400 teachers were trained in total.
Deliverables: a) Guide for distance learning b) educational material for general and special education teachers, parents and anyone involved in the teaching process (video-recorded interventions, presentations and the development of a Collective Volume on special education, disability and inclusion approaches in education, which is utilized for the training of the individualized in-classroom support teachers).
